Brad Pitt has no prejudice

It´s elections time in the United States and because denying marriage rights to same sex partners appears to be a regular political focus, many Hollywood stars have expressed their support to the candidates that best fit their preferences and needs. Some go conservative and others bet on progress, change and evolution.

Actor Brad Pitt and film Director Steven Spielberg are some of the major celebrities that are not afraid of change -nor challenged by their narrowed minds- that have donated important sums of money to groups fighting the initiative of passing Proposition 8 which would overturn the ruling and forever define marriage as between a man and a woman.

Mr. Pitt said, “Because no one has the right to deny another their life, even though they disagree with it, because everyone has the right to live the life they so desire if it doesn’t harm another and because discrimination has no place in America, my vote will be for equality and against Proposition 8.

The biggest crimes in history have been committed in the name of God

Intolerance is the lack of willingness to accept other people´s points of view, beliefs or practices due the contrast with one's own beliefs. We all are a bit intolerant in different levels, but when this refusal to tolerate the other´s beliefs is supported in religious grounds, the problem takes a new dimension.

"Every religion is true one way or another. It is true when understood metaphorically. But when it gets stuck in its own metaphors, interpreting them as facts, then you are in trouble". -Joseph Campbell

In recent dates, latin actor based in the US Eduardo Verastegui, started a campaign supporting California's Proposition 8, which would amend California’s constitution to define marriage as between one man and one woman and overturn the judicial activist decision approving homosexual "marriage" in the state. Verastegui has also participated in advertisements in favor of California's Proposition 4, which would require parental consent for abortions for minors.

Eduardo has openly admitted his recent conversion to Christianity, and ever since has stood up for the most conservative choices, speaking up whenever possible in favor of christian dogmas, such as celibacy, which he admits to believe in and practice. And this is probably why, blinded by his mystical standpoint, he decides to support politics that limit our progress as a society and push back the fight for equal rights that thousands of people have fought for over the last decades, grounded on his religious interpretation of good and evil.

Before you get confident in your beliefs, maybe you should do some research.

There is a reason why a number of countries worldwide contain provisions within their constitutions expressly forbidding the state from engaging in acts of religious intolerance. Religion must remain apart from the government, and the proof for this can be found throughout history, in every period in which the different churches have been in command. Theologians are people who interpret the vocabulary of scripture as if it were referring to supernatural facts.

Allowing same sex partners to legalize their union as a right that should be common to all civilized human beings is not a threat to the heterosexual marriage institution as we know it and it should´t be interpreted as such.

Preventing the legalization of abortion won´t stop it´s practice, it won´t stop abusers and it won´t stop the irresponsible hormonal teens that get unwillingly pregnant every day. It will only endure its clandestine nature.

I can see where Eduardo is coming from, but fearing change and resisting social evolution is not the way. The social core that is the family must be nourished and protected from within ourselves, encouraged with the example. Children must be protected by speaking the truth, giving them all the information needed, paying attention to their needs, knowing their fears, talking to them, getting to know them, share with them, respect their choices and support their passions, showing them how to protect themselves, helping them develop a strong self esteem.

Social challenges are solved through love and compassion, not with hatred and intolerance. Live and let live.

Rommel Agmed Pacheco Manrufo may poses the typical boy next door look, but don't let his 5'3" height fool you. This 22 year old mexican diver's fierce on his sport turns him into one of the most attractive young competitors in this 2008 Summer Olympic Games at Beiging.

David Beckham for Armani

Born on May 2nd, 1975, in Leytonstone, East London, England, Football Soccer super star David Beckham has become a global advertising brand after a tremendously successful career that includes three different FIFA World Cups and having played midfield for clubs in Manchester, England and Spain.

In 2007, he moved to Los Angeles and it is not to wonder, that way before his arrival, every Hollywood producer and every single brand out there already had an eye on him. Fortunately for us, the winner of his interest was Giorgio Armani, who chose David to be the face (and... ejem... body...) that would represent his new underwear collection.

I think the whole world is speechless... and because one image is worth more than a thousand words, I have nothing left to say than THANK YOU!

Sebastian Rulli

If you don´t live in Mexico, you are probably unaware of the latest media hip about Argentinian -self claimed Mexican- actor Sebatian Rulli appearing naked on stage for the classic play P.D. tu Gato ha Muerto (P.S. your Cat is Dead).
This latin heartthrob started his career as a runway model in places like Milán, París, Zurich, Tokio, Miami and México. Later on, in year 2000 he got an opportunity to participate in mexican telenovela A Mil por Hora and ever since, he has starred a great deal of this soap operas for Televisa.
Mainly known for his stunning looks and his -rumored- pec implants than for his acting skills, Sebastian is the latest link on a chain of latin actors that bare it all on stage in hopes for recognition. Strangely enough, critics do seem to acknowledge some "skill" to the act of appearing naked in front of an audience, because the long list of beautiful actors that have portrayed the character of Vitto in this play in Mexico, have included some of the worse (but pretty) actors in Televisa´s catalog and yet, they have all been acclaimed for their performance.
People seem to agree on one thing, seeing these cutties wearing their birth suit is well worth the price of the ticket and whatever these people see on that stage, appears to be enough to make them change their perspectives about what good acting is.

Same Old Luis Miguel

It´s hard to believe that mexican singer Luis Miguel was once a major hottie, dancing at the beach wearing tiny white speedos in the "Cuando Calienta el Sol" (Busca una Mujer, 1988) music video. Back then, Luis Miguel was the trendiest and most arresting young pop singer in all Latin America and Spain.
It´s been almost twenty five years since his debut at age 11, and throughout 22 LP´s recorded, LM consolidated a successful career as the number one record selling artist in the spanish speaking countries.
But despise his success and stunning vocal quality, Mickey (as his friends call him) is anything but an example of progress, creativity or innovation.
Since the release of his album Romance (1991), a recollection of classic songs or "boleros", the singer has relied on covers to sustain his career, but by doing so, he brought back to the new generations the music that their parents and grandparents grew up listening to, creating a sense of nationalism and pride that was beneficial for the traditional mexican songs catalog and reinforced the mexican identity amongst the new generations.
However, as an artist, Luis Miguel is perceived as stagnated. One can easily go through all his discography without distinguishing any evolution. His new album Complices (2008) is as impeccable as all his previous work, with beautiful love songs, precious arrangements and angelical performances, but any of the 12 tracks in this album could be easily exchanged with any track from any of his previous records and no one would even notice the difference. Every Luis Miguel record sounds just the same, feels the same and is essentially the same. And far from this being interpreted as a "style", it reflects the lack of a personal proposal, which in my opinion, is what makes art interesting.
Mickey used to be a gorgeous young man, with a ripped body and always impeccable, but he clearly abandoned himself pretty much at the same time he abandoned his creative passion. If art is the expression of the artist through a specific medium, then it is not surprising to see no evolution in the career of a man who has looked overweighted since 1991. He became conformist with his personal image at the same time he stopped caring about evolving as an artist. He has a beautiful face, so why bother staying in shape, He has a beautiful voice, so why bother taking it further?.
With a permanent fake tan and Armani suits, Luis Miguel seems to be just like his albums, pretty in the outside, impeccable, but unfortunately empty, stagnated and lacking passion, with apparently nothing revolving inside.
Good album, same old artist.
