Eduardo Verastegui and his acting career

More than 10 years ago, I remember looking at a magazine and being captivated by this gorgeous male model in a fashion segment. About a year after that, a cheesy boy band came out under the name "Kairo". One of the boys in this band was Eduardo Verastegui, the same handsome fellow that called my attention in that magazine.
Since then, Eduardo recorded albums with the band, joined the cast of some teenage oriented "telenovelas", tried out a solo career in the music and even participated as eye candy in a music video for J-Lo. Unfortunately for him, none of his efforts were enough to position Eduardo as a true artist in any discipline. He is just TOO beautiful.

He is not strong enough either vocally nor technically to even be considered as a singer. As a "telenovela" actor he was type casted and limited by this melodramatic genre; and as a model he didn´t really try hard, even though this was his strongest feature.

Now, after some years of not being seen in the Mexican entertainment industry, Eduardo shows up starring the independent film "Bella" (2006), in which he plays the main character, a young man who undergoes a process of self healing after having lost aim in his life because of an unfortunate accident.

The film is a good attempt to touch the audience´s feelings through a heavily emotional plot. Beautifully photographed, the storytelling is ok and in the end you can´t help but be moved by the tenderness of the movie. But director Alejandro Gomez Monteverde's lack of experience is evident trhough several inconsistencies in the psychology of the characters and their reactions.

Eduardo might be able to carry the weight of a light romantic comedy like Chasing Papi (2003) but his limited histrionic skills can't support the weight of this heavy dramatic role. He is not yet able to add dimension to his character, thus resulting in a series of "ok acting" sequences that don´t get to fully relate in the whole, despite of being "convincing", and as a result of that, you don't end up touched as deeply as you could.
But Eduardo has certainly come a long way since his acting debut in "Mi querida Isabel" (1997) and perhaps with more acting lessons and a good career planning he may become the next mexican actor to take over Hollywood. He has the presence and the looks, and we all know you don't have to be the greatest actor to make it big .

"Bella" represents the first step in Eduardo´s real acting career. Good luck!

I think Eduardo did a great job in the movie. to me, he gave his 100%.I agree that the movie has some inconsistencies as far as the reaction of the caracters. BUT! that is the directors deficiency, not the actors.he did the best with what he had.and as a spectator I have to say that I was very satisfyed with his acting.come on!! the guy is trying really hard to get out of the pretty boy , empty headed, stereo tipe most good looking actors have. and I think we should give him credit for that.

Yeah, I guess you are right. He is no Robert Deniro but he is getting better at his craft. The movie was good too. :)
